Privacy Policy

    Effective date: 18 August 2026

SciFiNames.com is run by one person and does not have user accounts, logins, newsletters or shopping carts. It does not ask you for your name, your email address or any other personal detail. What it does have is Google Analytics and Google AdSense, and both of those set cookies. This page explains exactly what that means.

    What this site collects directly

Nothing. There is no form on this site that submits data anywhere, no account to create, and no server-side database. The names you generate are produced in your own browser and are never sent to us. If you email me, I hold that email in my inbox, and nothing more.

    Cookies set by third parties

Two Google services run on this site, and both use cookies and similar technologies. Neither is controlled by us beyond the choice to include them.

    Google Analytics

Google Analytics tells us how many people visit, which pages they read, roughly where in the world they are (country and city level, never a precise location) and what kind of device and browser they use. It is used to decide which generators are worth expanding. It does not tell us who you are.

You can prevent Google Analytics from using your data entirely by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

    Google AdSense and advertising cookies

The following disclosures are required of every site that serves Google ads.

    • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and to other websites.
    • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
    • You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
    • You may opt out of personalised advertising from other participating vendors at aboutads.info/choices, and, if you are in the EU, at youronlinechoices.eu.
    • Google's own explanation of how it uses data from sites that use its services is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Opting out of personalised advertising does not remove ads. It means the ads you see are chosen without using your browsing history.

Consent in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland

If you are visiting from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, advertising and analytics cookies are set to denied before anything else on the page runs. Nothing is stored until you make a choice in the consent message that appears on your first visit. You can change that choice at any time through the privacy settings link in the consent tool, or by clearing this site's cookies in your browser.

Outside those regions, analytics and advertising cookies are enabled by default and you can opt out using the links above or through your browser settings.

    Legal basis under the GDPR

    • Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) for analytics and advertising cookies where you are in a region that requires it.
    • Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) for keeping the site online and secure, and for aggregate traffic measurement where consent is not required.

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to complain to your national data protection authority. Because this site holds no account data, in practice a request will most often be about data held by Google rather than by us. Email scifinames@gmail.com and I will help where I can and tell you plainly where I cannot.

    Data retention

We retain no personal data ourselves. Google Analytics data is retained according to the retention period configured in Google Analytics, after which Google deletes it. Advertising cookie lifetimes are set by Google and its partners, not by us.

    Managing cookies in your browser

Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies. Blocking them will not stop this site from working; the generators run entirely in your browser and do not depend on cookies.

    Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a message to us, email the address below and it will be deleted.

    Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the effective date at the top of this page changes with it. Material changes, such as adding a new third-party service, will be described rather than quietly folded in.

    Transfer of the site

If SciFiNames.com were sold or transferred, any data associated with it would transfer as part of that transaction, and this policy would continue to apply until the new owner published its own.

    Contact

Questions about this policy, or about anything on this page, go to scifinames@gmail.com. More about who runs the site is on the author page, and how content is produced is described in the editorial policy.
